David Heaton — the importance of being an Ernest winner

Just in time for red carpet season, our colleague David Heaton recently received a call from the Insurance Institute of Bolton to inform him he had won the Ernest Morgan Award 2018 from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

David is one of our most experienced Chartered Financial Planners, who achieved elite Personal Finance Society Fellowship status last year. After 39 years and seven months in the industry without an award, we’re proud that the CII has recognised his sterling contribution.

Ceremony

David was presented his award by local President Paul Taylor in front of 250 guests at the institute’s annual awards dinner held at the University of Bolton Stadium (still fondly referred to as ‘The Reebok’ by many Boltonians) — and a fantastic evening was had by all.

News of the award emerged from out of the blue, since it wasn’t something David had applied for or entered, but this merely served to make the whole event even more thrilling.

Dedication

This award is especially poignant for David because he met Ernie Morgan and Ian German as a rookie broker consultant for a specialist life insurer and pension provider at the start of his career in the 1980s. Fast forward almost 40 years, and in an amazing blast from the past, Ian’s dulcet tones delivered news of his award over the phone.

The Ernest Morgan Award 2018 is the peak of a recent purple patch for our professionals, with the PFS lauding us as ‘a uniquely distinguished team’.

But the longstanding career curves of experienced team members like David remind us that our foundations for excellence were laid long ago.
